(Las Vegas, NV) — A group of activists converged on NV Energy to make the public aware of health problems caused by a coal-fueled plant north of Las Vegas.
Idle No More, which originates in Canada, believes people are unaware of the detrimental biochemical effects of working or living downwind from the coal plant.
The Moapa Band of Paiutes, as well as residents of Logandale and Glendale may be directly affected.
Idle No More has tempted to make people aware that the plant has direct damaging effects on water, air, land and all living species in the Las Vegas valley.
The catch? The plant isn’t currently operating and will not until this Summer.
NV Energy released the following statement to KXNT on the subject:
NV Energy will continue its commitment to operate the Reid Gardner Generating Station in the best interests of its customers, in compliance with all federal and state laws, and in an environmentally responsible manner.
