(Las Vegas, NV)  –  Class sizes in Clark County classrooms may not get smaller, even though Governor Brian Sandoval is proposing a hike in education funding.

School district spokeswoman Amanda Fulkerson tells the “Review-Journal” the extra money could end up going toward pay raises for 17,000 teachers, an issue now in the hands of an arbitrator.

Fulkerson says the salary hikes would cost the nation’s fifth-largest school district an additional $50 million.

Salary freezes for three other employee groups expire this summer, and must be renegotiated.
