(Carson City, NV) — Nevada will remain part of the United States. A petition by secession supporters in the Silver State failed to get enough support.
Fewer than 11,000 Nevada residents signed the petition on a White House website. The President told Americans he’d take a close look at any issue that got 25,000 or more online petition signatures, so the idea of Nevada seceding is now officially dead.
The man who led the drive is blaming the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Unsuccessful congressional candidate Stan Vaughn says news stories about secession being illegal under Nevada law sure didn’t help.
Despite falling far short of moving forward, Vaughn is calling the petition drive a success for making people aware of state’s rights.
