(Las Vegas, NV) – A program to help youngsters stay off drugs has succumbed to budget cuts.
Metro Police have pulled the plug on the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, where officers warn kids about the dangers of drug use. DARE, which began in 1986, costs the police department about $2 million a year.
Sheriff Doug Gillespie says the money can be used to hire additional officers.
