(Las Vegas, NV) — More than 400 laid-off Clark County teachers will be back in the classroom August 27th, but their return won’t stop class sizes from growing.
School district officials found additional money to hire the 419 teachers let go in June, after an arbitrator sided with the teacher’s union over pay increases.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal says the returning teachers will fill in for instructors who have retired or resigned. That leaves the district with about 1,000 fewer teachers than last year.
Classes at the nation’s fifth-largest school district will increase to one teacher for every 35 students.
