NLVPD Fiscal Struggles May Ease
(Las Vegas, NV) — A grant that will help the North Las Vegas Police Department protect the community is getting close to becoming a reality.
The federal government may be able to ease some of the pain to hire or keep a number of officers to the tune of $1.7 million. Timothy Bedwell, PIO for the department told KXNT what the grant will cover.
“The grant will allow us to keep 14 officers who otherwise may be laid off or hire 14 officers as long as they are military veterans.”
But there is a catch regarding the grant money. “Fundamentally what the city has to do is to agree to pay the difference in the salaries and benefits for those 14 officers over that three-year period, and that’s about $3 million in matching funds.”, said Bedwell.
The city council will need to approve the grant and will need to do so by the middle of September.
