Las Vegas – Eight UNLV swimmers, three men and five women, will be attending this week’s U.S. Olympic Trials, which are being held at CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb. The trials will run from June 25th-July 2, and the top two finishes in each event will earn a spot on the US Olympic squad, while the third and fourth finishes in the 100m and 200m free will also earn spots to complete on the relay teams.

Two current members of the men’s squad at UNLV will complete, each in one event. Rising senior Cody Roberts, UNLV and MW record holder in the 100 yard fly, will swim in the 100 meter fly at the trials, while rising junior Brandon Meier will complete in the 200m breast. A third swimmer, David Seiler, who graduated from UNLV in 2011, will join Roberts in the 100m fly.

On the women’s side, two honorable mention All-Americans from this past season, rising juniors Rachel Dixon and Katelyne Herrington, will both attend the trials, with Dixon swimming in the 50m free and 100m back, while Herrington will swim the 100m back. Joining those two in the 100m back is another Rebel, rising senior Carmen Robb. Rising senior Dannica Brennan is competing in the 200m back, while recently graduated Marley Prothero will swim in the 100m and 200m breast events.

There will be two former Rebels in the London Olympics though, as both Joe Bartoch (2003-06) and Richard Hortness (2005-08) have earned spots on the Canadian Olympic team. Bartoch will swim in the 100m fly and the 4x100m medley relay, while Hortness is a member of the 4x100m free relay squad. This is the second straight Olympics for the pair, as they both swam for Canada in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, along with former UNLV swimmer Jonas Andersson (Sweden).
