(North Las Vegas, NV) – Facing a deadline to balance its budget, the city of North Las Vegas plans to close its jail.
KLAS-TV reports the city is working out a deal to move 170 inmates from the North Las Vegas Detention Center to the Las Vegas city jail.
The move would save about 12-million dollars a year. City manager Tim Hacker says about 100 staff members will be laid off. If the deal goes through, the first pink slips could go out early next month.
