SURPRISE, Ariz. (CBS Las Vegas) — Arizona authorities arrested a father accused of forcing his sons to take shots of liquor after he found out they previously drank his alcohol.
Surprise police say Kristopher Harvey forced his 13- and 14-year-old sons to take shots of liquor before he threw them in the pool as punishment on Monday. Harvey claims that the boys jumped in themselves.
The police report states that they found the teenage boys crying, drunk and vomiting when they arrived on the scene. Harvey was then placed under arrest and charged with two counts of child abuse.
Harvey says he was just trying to teach his sons a lesson.
“I was trying to teach my children that in drinking irresponsibly, this is what the cause and effect of it is, and this is what it’s going to do to you,” Harvey told KPHO-TV.
He now regrets his actions.
“I’ve lost my job. I’ve lost my children. I’ve now got to come up with $10,000 for an attorney just to fight to keep from having to do 17-to-life on two counts,” he told KPHO.
The boys were taken to a local hospital and released. They were visiting from California where they live with their grandmother.
