(Las Vegas, NV) — Clark County residents seem to need a reminder more than usual this year as fatalities in the county are up 66 percent year to date, over 2011 numbers.
As of May 14th, we have had 73 fatalities on county roads, 44 of them motor vehicle occupants. As in year’s past, the unbelted percentages hover at half, or 22 lives, that also means that 11 of them didn’t have to die. If all 44 people were belted, our totals would be minus 11 people or sitting at 33.
Clark County Law Enforcement has a plan to catch those not belted and issue them the all-important reminder: a citation. That citation carries a $25 fine, but with court costs and administration fees you will be minus $67.50, but that is far less than the cost in a crash if you are unbelted.
