Officer, Child Wounded In Shootings At LV Home
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a gunman is dead following a domestic disturbance and standoff that left and 8-year-old girl and a police officer with non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
Authorities became aware of the disturbance at a home on Wyatt Avenue in Las Vegas Friday night after the child was brought to a hospital.
According to a police statement, the girl’s relatives said she was wounded when a bullet traveled through a wall and struck her in the face.
Responding officers came under gunfire as they entered the home and an officer sustained a graze wound to the head.
Police returned fire as they retreated with the injured officer, and the suspect barricaded himself in the home.
After a standoff that lasted several hours, SWAT officers found the suspected gunman dead in the home around 2:15 a.m.
Police did not make clear if the man took his own life or was killed in an exchange of gunfire.
No names were immediately released.
