(Las Vegas, NV) – Six former Las Vegas Strip casino spa employees are asking an appeals court to overrule a federal judge and let a jury decide if they were dismissed because of their ages. Lawyer Michael Balaban said Tuesday he’s asking the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco to overturn U.S. District Judge Roger Hunt’s decision to toss out the age discrimination suit filed in 2010 against the Treasure Island hotel-casino. Hunt ruled Jan. 23 the casino had nondiscriminatory reasons not to employ the women. The women, aged 47 to 60 years old, complained they were dismissed after casino mogul Phil Ruffin bought the property in March 2009.

They allege Ruffin’s wife told a new manager at the renamed Oleksandra Spa & Salon that she wanted younger women working there.
