First Murder Arrest of 2012
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of murder in the city’s first homicide case of 2012.
Officers say they responded to a call about 5 p.m. New Year’s Day. They found a woman dead from apparent gunshot wounds at a residence on Bracken Avenue, near Charleston Boulevard and Maryland Parkway.
David Monarrez was booked into the Clark County Detention Center Monday pending a Tuesday court appearance. Family members have identified him as a relative of the dead woman.
Detectives say there may have been a fight between the woman and her attacker before she was killed.
