Death Of Six Year-Old Girl Spurs Enforcement Program

(CBS Las Vegas) The North Las Vegas Police Department will conduct various pedestrian enforcement programs throughout the city in an effort to increase driver awareness. Officers will focus their efforts on drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk, drivers who pass vehicles stopped for pedestrians, and pedestrians who fail to use a crosswalk to safely cross the street. The goal of this event is to educate drivers and pedestrians to be more aware of their surroundings on the roadway. The death of six-year old Mia Decker after being hit by a 78 year-old woman while in a crosswalk back in October has prompted law enforcement to try and make motorists more aware of their surroundings outside their car rather than inside.
