LAS VEGAS (AP) — UNLV has been picked to finish second in the Mountain West conference as the team returns four of five starters and two players getting preseason all-conference honors.

Conference officials announced Wednesday that UNLV was picked second to New Mexico in a poll of media covering the conference. New Mexico received 22 of 26 first place votes, while the Rebels received the other four.

Guard Oscar Bellefield and combo guard-forward Chace Stanback were picked to the preseason All-Mountain West team.

The Rebels finished 24-9 last year and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

Coach Dave Rice is in his first year, taking over for Lon Kruger. Kruger left UNLV after seven years to go to Oklahoma.
