Newest Popcorn Trend Cold As Ice
LAS VEGAS (CBS Las Vegas) – Take two friends, one part love for food, and one part liquid nitrogen. The end result? Frozen popcorn.
Just months after two friends and co-workers from the Eiffel Tower Restaurant at Paris Las Vegas decided to embark on a frozen popcorn product they concocted during a summer barbecue, Popped Gourmet Popcorn is now a reality, according to VegasInc.com.
“The fun part is most people have never experienced something like this. It’s new,” Zelma Watsubo told the website. “We wanted it to be a fun snack you can get. With the economic situation the way it is right now, not everyone wants to go out to dinner. But people still want to do something fun with family and friends.”
The popcorn, which is frozen to order, runs at $2 a cup and will have different flavors available every day, including the more traditional cheesy flavors to something a little bit different in Pop Rocks and Nerds candy flavors.
Described as part-popcorn stand, part-laboratory, Watsubo and Jean Francois Chavanel have developed a bit of a cult following with their cold corn, giving frozen popcorn enthusiasts a reason to come back for more.
“There are so many fine dining uses for liquid nitrogen,” Chavanel told Vegas Inc. “The idea was to find a product to use with the nitrogen so everybody can enjoy it.”
