MOUNT CHARLESTON, NV (AP) – Search and rescue teams have reached a man believed dead after a fall on Mount Charleston near Las Vegas.
Las Vegas police spokesman Marcus Martin says rescuers responded to a 911 call at 10:49 a.m. Thursday that a hiker had fallen an estimated 60 feet in an area known as Big Falls.
Martin describes the victim as a young man who was hiking with other young men. He says coroner’s officials are heading to the scene, but have to hike to the scene instead of using a helicopter, because of high winds.
Mount Charleston is in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest about an hour northwest of Las Vegas.
