(Las Vegas,NV) — The valley’s homeless population is lower than originally estimated. The Southern Nevada Regional Planning Commission announced last month that its survey showed more than 11,000 homeless in the Vegas area. A math correction has brought that number down to nearly 9500 people.
The new figure shows despite the recession, there are 29% fewer homeless in the valley compared to the last survey in 2009. Officials credit outreach programs for helping more people get into permanent housing.
