NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Local, state and federal officials are touting progress on a new 90-bed southern Nevada Veterans Administration medical complex that’s due to open next year in North Las Vegas.
Veterans and VA officials were due to join Democratic Congresswoman Shelley Berkley for a Thursday morning visit to the construction site for the new $650 million hospital, outpatient clinic and long-term care facility.
It’s scheduled to open in 2012 on North Pecos Road near the 215 Beltway.
The medical center is expected to serve a southern Nevada area with more than 50,000 enrolled VA patients and more than 200,000 veterans.
Berkley worked in Congress to get the nearly 150 acres of federal land for the project at no cost, and was among dignitaries at ceremony at the site before work began in October 2006.
