CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Senate has approved a bill along party lines to extend employment anti-discrimination protections to include gender identity and expression.

Democratic Sen. David Parks of Las Vegas told the chamber the bill is an extension of Nevada’s history of extending personal liberty to its citizens.

Sen. Sheila Leslie of Reno says Nevada joins 13 other states to include transgender discrimination in employment protections.

Sen. Ben Kieckhefer of Reno was the sole Republican to support the bill.
