LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 28-year-old man faces charges of kidnapping, carjacking and child pornography for allegedly taking a 7-year-old girl and forcing a Las Vegas taxi driver to drive them to California.
U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden said Wednesday that Matthew Hayward of Henderson is scheduled for an arraignment in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas on April 29.
The girl was reported missing on March 26. Her father told police his girlfriend was Hayward’s cousin.
Police say Hayward ditched the girl and the cab driver in a remote area in Barstow after they entered California. He later abandoned the cab.
Police found a pornographic picture of a girl on Hayward’s cellphone after searching the vehicle.
He was arrested on March 27 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
He faces a minimum of 20 years if convicted.
