(Las Vegas, NV)  —  Former Runnin’ Rebel Dave Rice says he’s glad to be back at UNLV.  The 42-year-old Rice, an assistant coach at BYU, replaces Lon Kruger as head coach of the Rebels basketball team.

Yesterday, Rice said it was his dream job to coach at UNLV.  He also talked about the “Runnin’ Rebel family” and called the Las Vegas campus a quote, “special place.”  Rice paid tribute to former coach Jerry Tarkanian, who led the Rebels to an NCAA championship in 1990.   The Board of Regents must still approve Rice’s hiring, and no details about his contract have been released.

KXNT’s Corey Olson interviewed Coach Rice at the press conference listen below.

  1. Lisa says:

I am very very happy for Coach Rice. I know his brother Grant coached my son at Gorman, and they are a very wonderful addition to our community. I just wish that all people would give Coach Dave a chance, but some want to jump in and play the race card. People, please just wish our new coach goodluck and stand behind him, not bash him before he even starts. It really gets old when you have to start explaining your decisions or fighting off accusations, you don’t like the choice, then don’t go to the games, plenty of other people will use the tickets.
