Not competent to stand trial. Thats what two court-appointed medical experts have concluded regarding Dr. Dipak Desai, the man facing trial on criminal charges stemming from the 2007 hepatitis C outbreak.
District Judge Jackie Glass could order Desai remanded to Lakes Crossing in Sparks, the state’s mental health hospital, for further evaluation. She has scheduled a hearing Tuesday morning to publicly disclose the results of the Desai evaluations.
The medical findings likely mean Desai’s March 14 trial will be put off.
The charges against the 60-year-old Desai revolve around the health cases of seven people authorities say were infected in 2007 with the potentially deadly hepatitis C virus at his Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada.
