Reggie Smith, a 6-foot, 175-pound guard from Chicago, has transferred from Marquette to UNLV. Smith, a McDonald’s All-American nominee at Thornton Township High School, appeared in eight games as a freshman for Marquette last fall, including five starts. He averaged 1.4 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He has enrolled in classes at UNLV and will be eligible to play for the Runnin’ Rebels as a sophomore after the completion of the Fall 2011 semester. In a written statement, head coach Lon Kruger said “We are excited to have Reggie in our program. He loves to play, is a great competitor, and has a terrific team-first attitude.”
Smith finished his high-school career with 1,300 points, 400 rebounds, 200 assists, and 200 steals. He was also a three-time all-conference selection (2008, 2009, 2010) and two-time all-state selection (2009, 2010).
