 Fans Pony Up $14.6M For No. 1 Western 'True Grit'

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “True Grit” has become Hollywood’s first big hit Western since the 1990s, taking over the top spot at the weekend box office with $14.6 million and lifting its total to more than $100 million.

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Hollywood.com are:

1. “True Grit,” Paramount, $14,605,135, 3,124 locations, $4,675 average, $110,035,157, three weeks.
