Tablet computers like Apple’s iPad have pulled the sales rug out from under netbooks.
“USA Today” reports netbooks were expected to be the hot computer this year with sales far ahead of the roughly 32-million sold in 2009. But once Apple introduced the iPad and others like Samsung followed, netbook sales went into a tailspin. Analysts disagree on the future of the netbook, basically a scaled down laptop. Some expect sales to shrink and then hold steady, while others predict a netbook demise within a few years. Even though they’re costlier, more than 20-million tablet computers have already been sold this year and the figure is expected to explode in 2011 when Motorola, LG and Toshiba introduce their offerings.
