President Obama hosts a bipartisan meeting with congressional leaders at the White House today.
Republicans dealt the Democratic President a major setback by regaining control of the U.S. House in the recent midterm elections. The top issue at today’s meeting will be the Bush-era tax cuts, which expire at year’s end. Many Democrats want to extend the tax cuts for the middle class but not for wealthier taxpayers. Republicans insist on extending tax cuts for everyone and contend no one’s taxes should go up in a sluggish economy.
