Holiday Economy Made Brighter By Online Shopping
There are signs that the holiday season may be a little bit brighter than last year — based on numbers from online shopping analysts.
John Squire is chief strategy officer at Coremetrics — a company that tracks online shopping. And he notes that for online shoppers, the average order for the first two weeks of this month was about $198. That’s up more than 10 percent from last year. But Coremetrics notes that the number of items put in electronic shopping carts was the same — about six. That indicates online shoppers are shelling out for more expensive items. So far, shoppers are taking advantage of early discounts on a variety of items as merchants look to lure in customers even before Black Friday — the traditional start to the holiday shopping season.
