Facebook Announces Mobile Platform Expansion
Facebook will expand its platform for mobile users but won’t introduce its own phone.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the company will make its “Facebook Places” app available on Google Android-based smartphones. The Places app reveals a user’s location. The example given was of a local merchant offering an impromptu discount to someone nearby who checks in from their cellphone via Facebook. Facebook wants to make its social network of half-a-billion members available to people when they’re away from their computers.
