
Facebook will expand its platform for mobile users but won’t introduce its own phone.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the company will make its “Facebook Places” app available on Google Android-based smartphones. The Places app reveals a user’s location. The example given was of a local merchant offering an impromptu discount to someone nearby who checks in from their cellphone via Facebook. Facebook wants to make its social network of half-a-billion members available to people when they’re away from their computers.
