An area of downtown Las Vegas has been honored by the American Planning Association.KXNT Morning News spoke to Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese about this honor.
The John S. Park Historic District is now one of ten Great Neighborhoods for 2010. The APA says the area near Las Vegas and Charleston Boulevards has distinguished residential architectures, a compact design, and access to public transit. Named after a businessman who came to Las Vegas in 1905, most of the homes in the John S. Park District were built between 1931 and 1956, to meet the housing demands of Hoover Dam construction workers and those serving at Nellis Air Force Base. Mayor Pro Tem Garry Reese called the community of 160 homes quote, “a gem in our downtown core.”
