New Miami Heat forward LeBron James is speaking out about his defection from Cleveland in an interview with GQ Magazine. James told interviewer J.R. Moehringer that despite widespread criticism from even the NBA commissioner, he has no regrets about the one-hour ESPN television special last month where he announced his intention to leave the Cavaliers and sign with the Heat. James added that, as a young man growing up in Akron, Ohio, he actually hated a lot of people in Cleveland anyway. The two-time reigning NBA MVP also responded to the scathing criticism he received from Cavs owner Dan Gilbert following the announcement.
James said his mother told him you get a good sense of a man’s character when they are hit with adversity, and Gilbert’s response to James’ choice made LeBron more comfortable with the decision to leave Cleveland. Nevertheless, the man known as “King James” did not rule out a return to Cleveland someday, telling GQ that it would make a great story.
