Longtime Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook has found a new home with the San Francisco 49ers. The 30-year-old Westbrook, who was released by the Eagles in the offseason, reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with the 49ers on Monday. The Niners were looking for a new running back after second-year back Glen Coffee abruptly announced his retirement last week. Westbrook has spent his entire eight-year career with the Eagles, and is the team’s all-time leader in yards from scrimmage (9,785) and touches (1,734.) He’s also second in the team’s all-time rushing category with 5,995 yards, and third in career receptions with 426. But age and multiple concussions appeared to catch up with Westbrook last season, as he appeared in just eight games and finished with only 274 yards rushing and two touchdowns. In San Francisco, Westbrook is expected to back up starting tailback Frank Gore.
