An Alaska man with an almost pristine copy of the first Batman comic is looking to get over 40-thousand dollars when it’s auctioned today.
Mike Wheat said he’s a collector and it’s time to pay some bills and let someone else own it. Wheat paid 300-dollars for the Batman One and two other comics back in 1974 after a friend found them hidden in a bureau he was refinishing.
It originally sold for ten-cents in 1940. Auctioneer Barry Sandoval said the price at his Heritage Auction site has already reached 41-thousand dollars and counting. Sandoval said he was impressed with, quote, “how amazingly white the pages were” thanks to Alaska’s chilly climate.
