LAS VEGAS (AP) — Democratic Congresswoman Shelley Berkley says Republican Sen. Dean Heller is choosing China over Nevada.

Berkley made the accusation Wednesday in a conference call with reporters.

Berkley and Heller are competing in Nevada’s 2012 Senate race.

Heller opposes legislation that seeks to punish China for undervaluing its currency and taking away American jobs. The White House has also criticized the bill, saying it could hamper international relations.

But Berkley says Heller opposition is “unacceptable” and “shameful.”

She says the nation is already in a trade war with China, and Nevadan workers are losing.

Berkley declined to comment on the White House’s concerns about the Chinese currency legislation.

Nevada has the highest unemployment rate in the nation.
