CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Tents are scattered about the grounds of the Nevada Legislature for a campout by advocates who support a Democratic tax package.
The compound is being dubbed “Sandoville” — a reference to Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval who has said he won’t raise taxes or fees to balance the budget. Critics say cuts proposed by the governor would gut education and services for the poor. Democrats say their tax proposal would raise $1.2 billion and stabilize Nevada’s tax structure.
