In this week’s That Thing You Missed NBA players read mean Tweets about themselves, get behind the scenes info from the infamous ‘Malice at the Palace’ brawl, Ochocinco’s butt slap lands him in the slammer and you’ll read probably the least intelligent and most dangerous statement a married athlete can make.
Wedding Dumb Bells?
This week the Boston Bruins’ Shawn Thornton told a reporter he puts his two Stanley Cup Wins on the list of all-time greatest days of his life. Missing from that list? The day he married his wife.
Now, I often say NHL players are the toughest athletes in professional sports. I never say they are the brightest.
And since we’re on the topic of not-so-bright athletes…
You NBA fans may recall the infamous night at the Palace of Auburn Hills just outside of Detroit in 2004 when the Pistons got into a brawl with the Indiana Pacers.
What started as an on-court melee ended up in the stands with Pacers players Ron Artest (now known as Metta World Peace) and Stephen Jackson getting physical with some fans.
Coined ‘Malice at the Palace’ it’s by far considered the most massive fight in professional basketball history.
According to Jackson, when they got back into the locker room Artest looked at him and asked. “Do you think we’re gonna get in trouble?”
Nine players were suspended for a total of nearly 150 games, resulting in over $10 million in lost pay.
Do you think Jackson regrets his actions?
Click on the below link to find out how he fells about slugging a fan. His answer just may surprise you!
Fans and professional sports figures can often have contentious relationships. So it was only natural that Jimmy Kimmel produced an NBA version of his feature Mean Tweets where celebs read nasty tweets about themselves sent in by fans.
My life will never be quite the same.
Witnessing the moment Rajon Rodon realizes he DOES look exactly like Franklin the Turtle on Nick Jr. is priceless.
On the other hand, the Tweet Bob Costas reads is not even close to the meanest Tweet someone could write. I’ve just written like ten in my head right now and those are just the ones about how short he is.
I’ve been a diehard Mets’ fan for nearly four decades and I can say with unwavering certainty that we need one of those at CitiField.
Chad Johnson aka Chad Ochocinco was sentenced to 30 days in jail for violating probation in a domestic violence case where he allegedly head butted his then-wife, TV reality star Evelyn Lozada.
A plea deal had been reached so Johnson could avoid jail time. Well, that was until he slapped his attorney on the butt during the courtroom proceeding.
If you watch the video you’ll see the bailiff obviously found it hysterical. The judge, however, did not. She rejected the agreed upon plea deal, sentencing Johnson instead to 30 days in jail.
How lucky is Casey Anthony that she didn’t draw that judge?
Some folks think the judge was too harsh. I, however, think Johnson slapping his attorney in the courtroom is akin to Lindsay Lohan snorting a line of cocaine off her lawyer’s stomach during one of her judicial proceedings.
Only, something tells me Lohan would still somehow manage to escape jail time.
Now, here’s an update: Johnson apologized to the judge and has been released! Now, that’s a “LiLo” more like it!
