Trains are more than a means of transportation to children. Dads who had train sets as a child are excited to share the experience with their own families, and children who grew up with “Thomas the Tank Engine” can’t wait to see the real thing. When trains are paired with Christmas, birthdays, a hands-on learning experience or an entire museum devoted to the Iron Horse, the pleasure is doubled and more.

Las Vegas Railroad Society
Railroad Heritage Park
There’s a new experience coming to Las Vegas and it’s sponsored by the Las Vegas Railroad Society. Construction will begin soon on phase one of the construction of Las Vegas’ biggest year-round hands-on field trip ever. Railroad Heritage Park will celebrate the history of the “Iron Horse,” from its beginning, with re-enactments of Las Vegas’ Railroad. The park will include a mining town and park, located on city-donated, 200-acre property near Summerlin Parkway. On display will be the the entire railroad from the ‘Tropicana Express’ Hotel & Casino in nearby Laughlin. The future plan is to offer small-scale, live steam-powered trains which will give school children, special needs kids and the public a tour throughout the entire park, letting them experience a “real” long train trip. The journeys will include a trip to the LVRRS’ Western Mining Town to tour the museum and other sites of interest. Considering the mining and rail history of Las Vegas, this will be a true, rich, exciting learning experience for children of all ages.
