Sometimes Las Vegans are looking for a gourmet meal, and other times they’re just looking for some satisfying comfort food. Milkshakes rate high on that list, taking us back to our childhood and letting us indulge our taste buds with frosty deliciousness. While some folks can’t imagine a thick shake without a burger, others prefer just the creamy concoction as a dessert. Whatever your preference, Las Vegas offers the best milkshakes at a number of locations and some are even “spiked.”

Sometimes a burger joint that’s touted to be the best in town also has the best milkshakes. According to insiders, Holsteins is no exception. Thick, creamy and delicious, these shakes complement the burgers better than carbon-copy franchises. You can choose to have your shakes “boozled” (with alcohol) or virgin (no alcohol) and either way, Holsteins offers an amazing selection of flavors not found anywhere else. Choose from the Drunken Monkey, Oreo, Fat Boy, Frozen Grasshopper, Brown Cow and Campfire S’mores, among others.

This ’50s-style diner brings a taste of nostalgia to Las Vegas. It has an extensive menu that includes thick, creamy shakes that can be mixed to include two flavors for only 99 cents more. It’s a trip back in time with all the “all-American” trimmings. Those in the know say that the shakes are among the best in town. If you’re an aficionado of the 1950s and you crave good food at reasonable prices (for the Strip), one can’t argue with perfection.

When is a milkshake not a milkshake? When it’s a frosty, thick, delectable blend of melted chocolate (base), whipped cream, ice and another dollop of whipped cream on top! This amazing concoction is a specialty at the beverage counter and rivals any frappe or shake to be found in Vegas. Foodies have described it as unbelievable and totally unique, and they are right. Come thirsty, visit the cactus garden and don’t forget to stop by the BC to choose either the vanilla or caramel version. They are a meal in themselves.

KGB may be a burger joint, but from all accounts, its Captain Crunch Milkshake is “to die for.” This shake is delicious, made with exclusive Cap’n Crunch Ice Cream and topped with Cap’n Crunch marshmallow treats and whipped cream, of course. Celebrity “Rock ‘n Roll” chef Kerry Simon opened KGB to give locals and guests a unique customized gourmet burger experience for lunch or dinner and it’s become an institution.

Experienced diners and sports bar enthusiasts swear by the shake and cookies, which pairs two fresh-baked, warm chocolate chip cookies and a creamy milkshake of your choice. If you prefer a great root beer float, you can get the same dynamic combo by ordering that. Dunking is definitely recommended. Stadium is no more costly than anywhere else on the Strip. This combo retro-styled diner/coffee shop/bar is, indeed, open 24/7. If you are craving something extra special, locals proclaim the thick chocolate shake with loads of whipping cream as “divine.” You may want to pair it with the “Gambler’s Special” (after all, this is Las Vegas!) for a real filling kick. You may even prefer to “spike” your shake to give yourself even more of the jump start or to keep the night rolling. The kitchen is open to your view and you get a great view of the casino, too, while enjoying your munchies.
