Even in Las Vegas, known for its neon and glitter, the joy of the season is reveled both on and off the Strip. From recreating a winter wonderland to millions of bright lights (after all, this is Las Vegas), it’s the season for joy, spending special time with loved ones and creating holiday memories. Both children and adults can enjoy these celebrations on and off the Las Vegas Strip.

Henderson chocolatier Ethel M Chocolates lights up the night with its 20th annual Holiday Cactus Garden. The seasonal attraction will feature more than 600,000 sparkling lights displayed throughout the three-acre Botanical Cactus Garden in a self-guided walking tour. In addition to twinkling lights, there are choir performances Fridays and Saturdays and photos with Santa Friday to Sunday. The retail store will also be open for holiday shopping.

In conjunction with the city of Las Vegas and its cultural corridor’s December to Remember holiday festival, the Neon Museum is offering a holiday ornament-making activity. After the activity, there will be hot chocolate offered and the opportunity to listen to caroling by Las Vegas Academy singers in the Neon Boneyard which will be illuminated for the holiday season. Visitors have the opportunity to view and photograph historic signs including the Stardust. Free parking is available on the museum campus.

The Nevada Ballet Theatre is presenting its original production and new interpretation of “The Nutcracker” for 2013. Based on the book “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by E.T.A. Hoffmann and set to Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s score, “The Nutcracker” will perform on the Reynolds Hall stage and will feature custom designed sets, colorful costumes and the choreography of artistic director James Canfield.

The third annual Winter in Venice is being held at The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas. The holiday-themed, Italian-inspired experience includes winter parades with colorful characters and a Winter In Venice fantasy scene projected in a 3-D light projection show in The Palazzo Waterfall Gardens. The skating rink above The Venetian’s outdoor Grand Canal is the only skating rink located on the Las Vegas Strip. For adults, specialty drinks will be offered along with hot beverages.

The holiday drive-through spectacular of Glittering Lights at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has hosted more than one million people in the past 13 years with 2.5 miles of twinkling lights to Christmas music broadcast through a dedicated AM/FM radio frequency. This year, several branches of the United Methodist Church are presenting a Living Nativity scene. Custom light displays showcase traditional favorites and new creations for 2013-14 season.
