Fall means Oktoberfest and Oktoberfest means great beer. Whether draft or bottled, there’s nothing better to toast in the new season. Las Vegas is unrivaled in the number of wonderful microbreweries and brewing companies. You can find everything from award-winning pale ales to fruity libations and dark, delicious stouts. We even have a couple of places vying for top spot in the sheer number of different types of brews on their menus. So here’s to Oktoberfest and our fine breweries and pubs. Prost!

Barley’s
4500 Sunset Road
Henderson, NV 89014
(702) 458-2739
www.wildfire.sclv.com/barleys

Barley’s is Henderson’s only brewpub and has the honor of being an older brewery in Las Vegas. Its award-winning recipes include Black Mountain Beer, Boulder Gold Hefeweizen, Blue Diamond Beer and Red Rock Original Oktoberfest Lager. For draft lovers, Blue Diamond is the lightest, smoothest beer available while Black Mountain and Red Rock are more robust in flavor. Those in the mood for a little food to go along with their libation can enjoy reasonably priced meals at the Brewer’s Cafe or the Brickhaus Pizza Kitchen.

Ellis Island Casino & Brewery
4178 Koval Lane
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 733-8901

Ellis Island features several varieties of beer, including a seasonal Oktoberfest brew that’s not to be missed. Other seasonal specialties include IPA (golden with a slight hint of amber and American hops, giving it herbal flavors, a smooth finish and next to no bitterness) and Hard Lemonade. Ellis’ light beer is touted as “the most flavorful light beer you have ever tasted,” while the stout is a dark beer with a rich, smooth, full-bodied taste. One of its specialties is the non-alcoholic, old-fashioned, all-natural brewed root beer. It’s unbelievably thick, creamy and definitely a blast from the past. Lift a pint at the Village Pub, The Restaurant or the Boardhouse Sandwich shop and savor the flavors.

Big Dog’s Brewing Company
The Draft House
4543 N. Rancho Drive
Las Vegas, NV 89108
(702) 645-1404

The big fall celebration at Big Dog’s is quickly approaching. Known as the DOG-toberfest Beer Fest & Brat Party, it will take place in early October as a kick-off to its seasonal special ales. While Big Dog brews can be found at various establishments in town, it is also featured at its two Las Vegas pubs alongside tasty pub fare, Midwestern cuisine and daily specials. Various seasonal ales such as Tangerine Wit, Honey Blond Ale and the Jackpot! Batch 777 IPA are only available at the pubs, while Raspberry Brown, Blueberry Wheat and Cherry Wit are now more widely available. Big Dog’s has also been in the catering business for 25 years with themed banquets and tailored menus. As always, the brewmasters are hard at work creating new favorites and special seasonal brews. There’s always something new and award-winning at Big Dog’s.

Gordon Biersch
3987 Paradise Road
Las Vegas, NV 89169
(702) 312-5247
www.gordonbiersch.com

Gordon Biersch rotates its beer from time to time, especially on a seasonal basis. Classics include light beer, malts, hoppy brews, dark stouts and porters and unusual offerings such as those which are fruity or spicy. Initially, Oktoberfest beers were dark amber or auburn hued with a distinctive, malty sweetness. Now, they have been refined into a drier, lighter colored lager called Festbier. A pale bronze color, this smooth beer is the perfect accompaniment for its unique fall menu.

Hofbräuhaus
4510 Paradise Road
Las Vegas, NV 89169
(702) 853-2337
www.hofbrauhauslasvegas.com

Hofbräuhaus is the only authentic German beer hall and restaurant in Las Vegas. Here you can celebrate Oktoberfest all year round with traditional German beer paired with a delicious, stick-to-your-ribs Bavarian menu. Once Oktoberfest officially rolls around, Hofbräuhaus features a bottom fermented lager, Golden Oktoberfest Beer. For this occasion, Hofbräuhaus brews a rich, full-bodied beer which is an absolutely natural product brewed from pure water, the best quality malt and exquisite hops. While this is not a microbrewery, the unique nature of this Las Vegas institution makes it a “must-see” for guests from around the world and for loyal locals.

The Yardhouse at Town Square offers specials for happy hour and for lunch, but this restaurant is one of Las Vegas’ favorite watering holes, renowned for its extensive beer menu. This makes it a popular destination for thirsty locals and guests visiting the city. Once Oktoberfest season arrives, the premier selection is Spaten Oktoberfest from the Spaten-Löwenbräu-Gruppe brewery in Munich. Other seasonal brews are Kona Seasonal, Ommegang Seasonal and Sam Adams Seasonal beer.
