Best Casinos For Las Vegas Locals

October 18, 2011 12:30 PM

Las Vegas locals want for nothing when it comes to casino resorts, and, like tourists, they get time off and have entertainment needs. While local residents have plenty of great choices outside of their area casino resorts, these places make it difficult, almost irresistible, to not consider the offerings. With club card memberships, monthly mailer discounts and buy-one-get-one-free Tweets and texts, how can you not drop the kids for a movie (free soda with popcorn) while the parents have a hip dinner date, and then meet up as a family for neon bowling at 10:30 p.m.? Many of the local casino resort venues rival that of their Strip counterparts, and each has an immense amount of things to offer. — Marco Medrano

Palms Casino Resort

4321 West Flamingo Road
Las Vegas, NV 89103
(702) 942-7777

The Palms Casino Resort has the right amount of hip, current, chic and cheeky and is home to some of the best restaurants, nightclubs, concerts and movie theaters Vegas has to offer. The Playboy Club is hot, hot, hot! Ghostbar has one of the most panoramic views of the Vegas skyline, while Pearl Theater is the choice for many hipster music artists and alternative rock bands. The restaurant scene is its own list of red carpet hotness — Simon, Alize and Little Buddha, for starters. Amp Salon was voted ‘Best’ by locals, and The Palms’ themed Fantasy or Playpen Suites are legendary enough for locals to skip the airport and check in for a few days.

Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa

11011 West Charleston Boulevard
Las Vegas, NV 89135
(702) 797-7777

This is possibly one of the most beautiful casino resorts for locals off the Strip, but easily jockeys for position in the top 10 for all of Las Vegas. Station Casinos’ newest brand is also a favorite amongst local gamblers and slot players, with rewarding incentives. Red Rock’s desert modern luxury is a true destination resort, housing simply elegant rooms and suites. Magnificent in design, with impeccable attention to detail, its sumptuous finishes and open feeling of modern grandeur provide a sense of arrival at every turn. HACHI specializes in modern Japanese fare while T-Bones Chophouse & Lounge satisfies the most finicky beef connoisseurs. Red Rock Spa is simply amazing, while the resort also hosts a Regal Cinema and bowling alley.

M Resort, Spa & Casino

12300 Las Vegas Boulevard South
Henderson, NV 89044
(702) 797-1000

M Casino Resort owners, the Marnell family, are no strangers to the Strip or local gambling entertainment scene — with a 2010 Forbes Mobil 4Star Award to prove it. Considered “South Strip,” M Resort relies heavily on locals and convention business and pleases its patrons in every way, not to mention having a beautiful gambling establishment. Veloce Cibo and Terzetto restaurants have a discerning following, while their nightclubs and bars, including Ravello Lounges’ live entertainment, feature award-winning resident entertainers. The spa and pools also have the most incredibly scenic views of Las Vegas.

Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa & Casino

2300 Paseo Verde Parkway
Henderson, NV 89052
(702) 617-7777

“GVR,” as it is referred to by the locals, is also known as a decadent Hollywood hideout for many superstars and locals who like to separate themselves from the everyday —and moreover puts you on the Strip with a 10-minute limo ride, providing the best of both worlds. The gaming pit follows the stately Baronial architecture of the property, with all the sumptuous modern luxuries a movie star would expect — and then some. The Drop Bar and GVR’s Sports Book are famous, and the restaurants are terrific, while The Original Pancake House is world-renowned as only Austrian flair could provide. Add the Backyard and the Pond for exclusive poolside cabana service and people watching, shopping at the attached District, the Regal Cinemas and the exclusive 2,000-seat Grand Events Center and, well, who’s going home?

Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino

3667 Las Vegas Boulevard South
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 517-3263

Planet Hollywood has had many lives in its short tenure, but it just can’t be overlooked. Now owned by Harrahs Entertainment with one of the most sophisticated member loyalty programs in gaming ever, Planet Hollywood manages to remain relevant, cutting edge and a lot of fun. The bars, the restaurants (KOI holds the flagship celebrity chef spot) and the Pleasure Pools outdoor DJ retreat are just impressive. Planet Hollywood Theater hosts red carpet movie premieres, stadium-sized rock bands, and Miss USA and Miss America pageants and is home to Holly Madison’s striptease spectacular, “Peepshow.” Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile Shops provide some of the finest one-of-a-kind retailers. This is definitely a locals’ favorite.
