Although there’s quite a few great candidates this year like RG3, Andrew Luck and Russel Wilson, my vote goes to Tampa Bay’s Doug Martin out of Boise State. Martin is surprisingly third in the NFL in rushing at 1000 yards, averaging a Barry Sanders like 5.1 yards per carry to go along with 7 touchdowns. I guess I’m just a sucker for small schools and underdogs…oh yeah and the Bucs are currently second in the NFC South at 6-4 right behind the Falcons. Martin may not win but he should at least be in the discussion.

As much as I like Doug Martin and believe he is the second coming of Warrick Dunn for the Bucs. Warrick Dunn never won any Super Bowls for his team, as electrifying as he may have been. Without Martin, The Bucs would still be the same team. Without RGIII The Redskins are a shell of themselves. Players like RGIII are maybe twice in a lifetime. The entire package, athletic, personality, smarts and all at the young age of 22. He is a game changer, while Doug Martin is a nice supplement.
No rookie QB has ever put up the numbers RGIII has with 12 TD's and only 3 int's all season. Luck has 12 TD's to match his 12 int's and Cam Newton had 17 int's his rookie year when he broke all the rookie records. Not to mention RGIII's 101 passer rating, which no rookie has had over 100 ever. Also this past week he had a perfect passer rating of 158.3 going 14 for 15 for 200 yards and 4 TD's.
As I've said a few times before, if RGIII was on pretty much any team other than the struggling Redskins, this wouldn't even be a question as to who is MVP, let alone Rookie of the Year. Doug Martin may be the leading rookie rusher in the NFL, but RGIII is 4th! How many passing yards does Martin have again? Right.. So, best of luck to Doug Martin, but RGIII has this one wrapped up. The ultimate weapon, and one of the most memorable rookies of the year to ever play the game.
