LAS VEGAS (KXNT) – An 18-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly prompting a vehicle pursuit that ended with a Las Vegas Metro police officer firing several shots into the suspect’s vehicle late Monday, according to authorities.
The incident started when patrol officers spotted an unregistered Honda driving near East Bonanza Road and North Nellis Boulevard around 11:15 p.m. Monday, a LVMPD statement reported.
When the officers tried to pull the car over, the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Daniel Prichard, sped away.
Police didn’t pursue the speeding car, but the vehicle was located a short time later parked in a cul-de-sac near Del Amo Drive and North Sandhill Road. When the officers attempted to contact the driver, the suspect tried to run down one of the officers. One officer fired his weapon into the car several times, but didn’t strike Prichard.
Prichard was taken into custody in the area of Vallejo Avenue and Midas Street and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for multiple charges.
The incident was the 8th officer-involved shooting linked to the LVMPD in 2016. The shooting remains under investigation.
