LAS VEGAS (AP) — A McCarren International Airport employee has been sentenced to probation for stealing more than 200 pieces of mail in search of cash and gift cards.
The Las Vegas Sun reports that 27-year-old Martin Sagaga Lio Jr. Was sentenced to 30 months of probation on Thursday.
Lio was employed by Swissport and tasked with handling mail loaded in airliners. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he would steal gift-card sized envelopes from trays, hide them in his clothes, open them in an employee bathroom and discard what he didn’t take.
Lio was arrested Feb. 26 after investigators had found opened letters in trash cans.
