LAS VEGAS (KXNT) – A woman was killed and a driver faces possible DUI charges after investigators say a car ran off the road on to a sidewalk, striking two pedestrians Wednesday night, according to authorities.
The collision happened on East Charleston Boulevard at South Las Vegas Boulevard around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, a Las Vegas Metro Police statement reported.
Witnesses said the Toyota Camry was traveling east of East Charleston when the car veered off the roadway and hit a man and a woman who were sitting on a wall along the sidewalk.
Both victims were transported to University Medical Center, where the woman was pronounced dead. Her name was not immediately released pending family notification. The man, Christopher Barela, 30, of Las Vegas, suffered substantial injuries and remained hospitalized Thursday.
The driver of the Camry, Andrea Corbani of Las Vegas, left the scene of the wreck, but crashed into a pole a short time later.
Corbani, 45, showed signs of impairment and she was arrested by officers on possible DUI charges.
The collision was the 91st traffic-related fatality investigated by LVMPD officers in 2016.
