LAS VEGAS (KXNT) – The mother and aunt of a Las Vegas child found dead in August from a drug overdose now face murder charges in the child’s death, according to authorities.
The victim’s mother Kendra Hatch and aunt Mylynda Hatch were arrested Wednesday following a two-month investigation into the child’s death on August 10, a Las Vegas Metro Police statement reported.
Officers arrived at the home of the 2500 block of Duck Arrow Circle after the 9-year-old child was reported dead.
An investigation by the LVMPD Abuse and Neglect Section determined the two women gave the child prescription pain medication not prescribed to the child to treat symptoms related to an injury. Toxicology reports later showed the child overdosed on hydrocodone and oxycodone, and also suffered from pneumonia.
Both women were each booked on one count of murder.
Authorities used the opportunity to remind parents about the importance of responsible storage and administration of medications as well as to never allow medicine to be used by anyone but the prescribed patient.
