LAS VEGAS (KXNT) – A toddler suffered critical injuries and a woman faces charges after Las Vegas police say she her unattended gun accidentally discharged, striking the child.
Officers were called to the home on the 4200 block of Studio Street just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday following reports that a toddler had been shot, according to a Las Vegas Metro Police statement.
The child was rushed to University Medical Center where she was treated for what medical staff called a critical injury. The extent of the toddler’s injuries were not immediately released.
Investigators with the LVMPD Abuse and Neglect Section determined Shaletres Townsend left her unsecured firearm on a chair in a bedroom where children were playing. The gun accidentally fire, striking the child.
Townsend, 30, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of child neglect.
