LAS VEGAS (KXNT) – A 21-year-old man faces murder charges after an 18-month-old baby left in his care suffered severe injuries and later died, according to authorities.
Las Vegas Metro Police officers arrived at the apartment complex on the 800 block of Sierra Vista Drive following a call of the unresponsive child, a LVMPD statement reported.
The child was rushed to Sunrise Children’s Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The girl had suffered severe burns and bruising to various parts of her body.
An investigation by detectives with the LVMPD Abuse and Neglect Section determined the baby’s caretaker Demond Billingsley was responsible for the child’s injuries.
Billingsley was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of murder by child abuse.
