Nevada Judges Ask Residents to Respond to Jury Duty Summons

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada judges and court officials are launching a campaign to get more people to respond to summonses for jury services.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that 30-second public service announcements are running on local networks, Clark County Television, YouTube and other social media asking people to stop making excuses and serve on juries.

In the spot, Chief District Judge David Barker, appearing on screen alongside Nevada Supreme Court Justice Mark Gibbons, reads a list of “top 10 actual excuses” used to avoid jury duty. The list includes “I’m psychic” and “I don’t talk, only smile.”

Clark County District Court spokeswoman Mary Ann Price says one of the biggest challenges is getting people to respond to summonses for grand jury service, which entails a yearlong commitment.
