LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities have identified a 19-year-old motorist who is being held on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after a pre-dawn crash that injured a Las Vegas police motorcycle officer.
Police say David J. Williams was driving a 2003 Hyundai Accent that struck the marked 2014 police Harley Davidson motorcycle from behind about 4:15 a.m. Friday on Tropicana Avenue near Durango Drive.
Sgt. Richard Strader said the 43-year-old police officer was taken to University Medical Center with neck, back and leg injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening.
The officer’s name wasn’t immediately made public.
Jail records showed that Williams, of Las Vegas, was being held without bail pending an initial court appearance.
Police said he wasn’t hurt in the crash, and remained at the scene.
It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.
